SERVICES – Installation – Vertical Wheelchair Lifts

Vertical Wheelchair Lifts fall into two categories; those in private residences and those in public buildings. Each category is governed by a separate section of the ANSI A18.1 code.

Vertical Wheelchair Lifts of both varieties are limited to 18 sq./ft of platform area, 14′ of vertical travel, a maximum speed of 30 feet per minute and must be operated by continuous pressure on a button or paddle. They can be enclosed or open cabin but regardless must have walls that are a minimum of 42″ high on the sides that are not used for loading or unloading.

Vertical Wheelchair Lifts can be installed in an enclosed hoistway or may be used without an enclosure in certain circumstances. They can be installed within a home or office or can be used outside to provide access between two levels. All the Vertical Wheelchair Lifts we install come complete with a battery backup that allows multiple round trips with the main power supply interrupted.

The Vertical Wheelchair Lifts that RMR installs are manufactured by Inclinator or Harmar and both are driven by a screw mechanism.
